All patients underwent intraoperative B-scan ultrasonography and 25-gauge pars plana vitrectomy within 12 h after open globe injury. Intraoperative B-scan ultrasonography was feasible in all cases and was useful for diagnosing choroidal hemorrhage (four eyes), massive subretinal hemorrhage (two eyes), and retinal detachment (five eyes).
In cases of bullous retinal detachments with 'shifting fluid' (in sitting position the RD is inferior bullous and superior retina seems attached; in supine position, there is a total retinal detachment), it may be necessary to rule out an exudative retinal detachment (ERD). Retinal detachment: A condition where the retina separates from the back of the eye cavity. This may be caused by vitreous gel or fluid leaking through a retinal tear or hole and collecting under the retina causing it to separate from the tissue around it. Retinal detachment is painless. Early symptoms of rhegmatogenous detachment may include dark or irregular vitreous floaters (particularly a sudden increase), flashes of light (photopsias), and blurred vision. As detachment progresses, the patient often notices a curtain, veil, or grayness in the field of vision.

OCT B-scan through the nasal portion of the electrode array shows a retinal detachment but complete apposition of the array to the macula at 3.5 years after implantation (H). The patient underwent 23-gauge pars plana vitrectomy, membrane peeling, endolaser application, air-fluid exchange, and injection of 5,000 cs silicone oil.

Inclusion criteria were as follows: all consecutive patients referred to the center for vitreous hemorrhage, retinal detachment, and PVD and diagnosed by B-scan US with retinal tear. Patients referred for laser treatment were also included when retinal tear was clinically diagnosed by B-scan US. Both eyes of the same patient could be included. B-scan ultrasound examination typically shows a smooth, thick, dome-shaped membrane with little aftermovement. 24 Ciliochoroidal effusion may be distinguished from retinal detachment by extension of the detachment anterior to the ora serrata.

The diagnoses of retinal detachment, disorganized posterior contents, hemorrhagic choroidal detachment, kissing choroidal detachment, and irregular posterior contour were associated with worse visual acuity at final follow-up. Disorganized posterior contents correlated with particularly poor outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: B-scan ultrasonography is a

Severe retinal vein occlusion may be accompanied by extensive SRD. 84 SRD can be demonstrated in approximately 80% of central retinal vein occlusion patients with cystoid macular edema. 85 It appears that SRD is more frequent in major branch retinal vein Detachment is more likely to occur if the other eye has the condition (such as lattice degeneration) associated with retinal detachment in the first eye. If only one eye suffers a serious injury or requires eye surgery then, of course, the chance of detachment in the other eye is not increased by the event.

A simple and understanding video on RD apearance on B Scan Retinal detachment. Retinal detachments have a characteristic undulating movement of the retina with dynamic scans. The retina moves at a slower speed than the posterior hyaloid and its reflectivity is higher. You can use ultrasound using the axial, transverse and longitudinal views to delineate where the retina has detached.
